Lean Management Accounting Certification

A management accounting system is designed to deliver relevant & reliable information to managers to make good business decisions. When a company commits to a lean transformation, the definition of relevant and reliable information changes because users need information that supports the lean strategy and lean operations. In this certification course, you will learn the principles, practices and tools of a lean management accounting system and how to apply them in any lean company.

Continuing Education Credits for CPAs: Upon successful completion of a certification course, BMA can provide any CPA with a continuing education certificate for 5 hours of credit.

Lean Accounting Process Improvement Certification

Lean principles, practices and tools can be applied in all types of processes, but the starting points and sequence in which they are used to unlock their benefits are different. This course is structured specifically for the accounting function and how its processes work. In this certification course, you will learn how to apply lean principles, practices and tools in accounting processes to eliminate waste, improve productivity and serve your customers better.

  • Class 1: Lean Thinking for Accounting
  • Class 2: The Daily Lean Management System
  • Class 3: Improving Accounts Payable
  • Class 4: Improving Accounts Receivable
  • Class 4: Improving Month-End Close and Budgeting

Each certification consists of five 1-hour classes with a quiz after each class. Classes must be taken in sequential order. 

  • Watch entire videos of each class.
  • Respond to 3 of 4 Review Questions during each class.
  • Complete the 10-question multiple choice quiz after each class and score 70% or better on each quiz.
  • Must complete a certification course in 20 calendar days from receiving the login to the learning management system. If you fail to complete the course in 20 calendar days, your account will be temporarily inactivated until you are ready to complete the course.
  • Preparation: 15 – 30 minutes to download class materials and review.
  • Watch video of class: 1 hour.
  • Take the quiz: 15 – 30 minutes. It is highly recommended that you download the class presentation before taking the class to use as reference materials for taking the quiz.

None are required, but it is recommended to have a general understanding of lean and lean accounting because the courses use lean and lean accounting terminology & phrases.
