BMA offers a wide range of  lean accounting and lean management training classes that can be conducted either on-site or web-based. Our web-based training can be conducted in one session or over multiple sessions.

We are also available to speak at conferences on any of these topics as a keynote speaker,  conduct a breakout-session or do a pre- or post-conference workshop.

Lean Accounting Classes

Introduction to Lean Accounting

On-Site: 1 Day

Web-based: 5 Hours

To achieve success, a Lean organization must develop an effective management accounting function that complements their financial accounting system to provide a sufficient knowledge base for making decisions about the future. In this class, you will learn how to build and use a lean management accounting system to make relevant information available to decision makers on a timely basis.

Practicing Lean Accounting

The outcome of this class is an implementation plan for making Lean Accounting a reality in your organization. Using hands-on examples & exercises, the class will teach you the practical application and implementation of Lean Accounting methods. Designed for a cross-function team, this class provides the ideal starting-point for companies embarking on the implementation of Lean Accounting.

Lean Performance Measurements

On-Site: 1 Day

Web-based: 1-2 Hours

In this class you will learn how to develop and implement integrated metrics for production cells, value streams, office processes, and the company. We will focus on the “starter set” of lean measurements widely used by lean companies. These measurements will enable you to drive continuous improvement at every level of your organization.

Value Stream Income Statement

On-Site: 1 Day

Web-based: 2-5 Hours

In this class you will learn how to create a value stream income statement for your lean organization, using your current income statement and identified value streams. The web-based class is conducted over several sessions with required work in between sessions.

Value Stream Capacity

On-Site: 1 Day

Web-based: 2-5 Hours

In this class you will learn how to calculate capacity for one value stream in your organization, using the BMA capacity template and your current state value stream map. The web-based class is conducted over several sessions with required work in between sessions.

Transaction Simplification & Elimination

On-Site: 1 Day

Web-based: 2-5 Hours

In this class you will learn how to identify the wasteful transactions in your business processes and develop a “maturity path” for the elimination of these transactions. while maintaining excellent financial and operational control. This class will focus on business processes such as production control, procure to pay, inventory tracking, order to cash and cost accounting. The web-based class is conducted over several sessions with required work in between sessions.

Lean Inventory Valuation

On-Site: 1 Day

Web-based: 1-2 Hours

In this class, you will learn how to develop and implement a Lean inventory valuation system to replace standard costing-based inventory valuation methods.

Lean Management Classes

You will learn how to identify your administrative value streams and how to apply lean practices to plan, control, improve and manage office value streams. A second day will include a complete Lean assessment of office functions in order to create a Lean transformation plan for office processes.

Value Stream Identification & Organization

On-Site: 1 or 2 Days

Web-based: 1 – 2 Hours

This class will provide a clear approach to defining your value streams. You will define the operational flows within the company, determine the value stream teams required to support the lean enterprise, determine the most appropriate organizational structure, and develop a practical action plan for introducing these value streams.

This class is designed to show how Lean practices and Lean Accounting methods are combined to manage, control, and improve value streams. This class demonstrates how these tools fit together into a cohesive management structure for a sustained growth, increased value, waste elimination, and financial success.

Value Stream Mapping

On-Site: 2 – 3 Days

Web-based: 3 Hours

The purpose of this class is to teach the fundamentals of value stream mapping. You will draw a current state value stream map for one of your value streams, learn the standard steps required to build Lean flow into the value stream, and design & map the future state value stream process for your value stream. You will also develop a practical action plan to make the future state a reality.

Lean Product Development

This class is designed to show how Lean practices and Lean Accounting methods are combined to manage, control, and improve product development value streams. It will demonstrate how these tools fit together into a cohesive management structure to reduce product development time.

Lean Strategy Development for Executives

In this class, an executive team will learn how to develop a plan for active Lean Leadership. Topics that will be covered include developing a Lean strategy, fostering a Lean culture, teaching Lean principles and methods, and teaching executives how to be actively involved in Lean improvement.

Lean Sales, Operations and Financial Planning

The monthly SOFP process is the key to developing short and long term operating plans, as well as integrating the company’s sales, marketing, product development, production, and distribution processes to maximize customer value and profitability. In this class you will learn how to integrate Lean Accounting & Lean Practices into your company’s current SOFP process.

Strategy Deployment

Web-based: 2 Hours

This class is designed to teach an organization the steps, methods, and process of Strategy Deployment. In this class, you will learn how to use the X-Matrix, and how to incorporate value stream maps, continuous improvement plans, and the Box Score into your company’s strategy development process.
